Once the conditions for the safe operation of a nuclear power plant can no longer be guaranteed, the operating licence may be withdrawn at any time. If the decommissioning criteria under the DETEC Ordinance of 16 April 2008 on the Methodology and Standards for the Verification of the Criteria for the Provisional Decommissioning of Nuclear Power Plants are met, the licensed operator must decommission the plant immediately.
